Pilot is a Firefox extension for viewing the effects of a Kynetx ruleset on a Web site before the Web site has been tagged. This is great for demos and testing.

For now, Pilot is known to work on Firefox 2 and 3.

Here's how to get it and set it up:

  1. Download the .xpi file here:http://dev.kynetx.com/downloads/pilot-1.8.1.xpi
  2. Open the file using Open File in Firefox. You should see something like the following picture. Click on "Install Now" and then restart Firefox.

  3. If you look at the lower left hand corner of Firefox, you'll see something like this. Note that the Kynetx logo is greyed-out. That means Pilot is disabled.

Clicking on the logo will enable Pilot and the logo will be blue:

  4. Under the Tools->Kynetx Pilot menu in Firefox you can list, clear and add sites. Adding a site allows you to associate a Web site with a Ruleset. You merely add the URL and client ID of the ruleset you wish to be active in your copy of Pilot. There is currently no way to redo a single site--you have to clear and reenter. To add a site select add a site from the menu. You'll see this:

Enter the site domain name (no "http://"). Then, enter the the Kynetx ID:

This associates www.windley.org with Kynetx ID 10556. You may asked to supply a dataset name. You can leave this empty unless one was supplied with the ruleset ID and site information you entered above. Note that at present there is no way to remove a single site--you have to "clear" the list.

Once Piliot is enabled and a ruleset is associated with a URL in Pilot, visiting that Web site will call that ruleset as if the pages on that Web site had been tagged.

By default Pilot uses the production servers to execute rules. If you want to use another Context Engine, you can use Tools->Kynetx Pilot->Change JavaScript Locations to change the IP addresses that will be used to load the initial JS files (which in turn controls what servers get used).
